Special Call for Directors for our 2024-25 season

A special opportunity has arisen in the Central Park Players 2024-25 season. We have two shows in the second half of our season in need of directors, assistant directors, stage managers and artistic staff.

Talking With… by Jane Martin is an all woman show highlighting eleven characters who  represented a wide spectrum of experiences in engaging monologues sure to make you laugh,  cry and cringe at the very human experiences they express.

Harvey by Mary Chase is the classic comedy about the people perplexed and concerned for  the optimistic gentleman Edward P Dowd who may talk to an imaginary rabbit to the extent  that his sister has the unfortunate decision to possibly commit him to an asylum – if she  doesn’t end up getting committed herself in this charming comedy of errors.

Talking With… is currently slated as our winter show.

  • Auditions – January 6 & 7, 2025
  • Callbacks – January 8, 2025
  • Read Through – January 9, 2025
  • Performances:  March 7, 8, 14 & 15, 2025
Note: Saturday, March 15 is a double show with a matinee & evening  performance

Due to the mature nature of some of the script, interested staff must be comfortable with more difficult subject matter and language.

Please take into consideration the single monologue vignettes and the time needed or not  needed with having one-on-one director to actor needs in scheduling.

Harvey is currently slated as our spring show.

  • Auditions – March 10 & 11, 2025
  • Callbacks – March 12, 2025
  • Read Through – March 13, 2025
  • Performances – May 9, 10, 16 & 17, 2025
Note: Saturday, May 17 is a double show with a matinee & evening  performance

NEXT STEPS:

Serious inquiries and applications can be sent to artistic@centralparkplayers.org

WHAT TO INCLUDE:

  • A resume of your theater experience both behind the scenes and on stage.
  • The role(s) you’re interested in. (e.g. director, producer, etc)

Non-Directors:

  • Is there a director applying that you’d be interested in working with?
  • Is there a show you feel you have particular skills, talent or vision to contribute to as part of the artistic leadership?

Directors:

  • A general director’s vision for the show:
    • What does it mean to you?
    • What are some staging ideas you have?
  • Do you have a team in mind that you would like to bring with you? Or are there roles that you would like help filling?
    • If you have specific people please include their names in your application.
  • We would also invite you to consider both more experienced and less experienced  volunteers in your team to help build the community and create a larger group of creative volunteers.

If Chosen

  • Directors must create and submit a tentative schedule a month in advance of auditions and be ready to present to those auditioning at the time of registration.
    • This does not have to be a cemented schedule but simply a framework to build off of once performer conflicts are known.
  • Directors will need to have a team in place before auditions take place. If there are areas that are proving difficult to acquire the right talent, we can help recruit the spaces that need filling.

We hope you are excited to work with Central Park Players, and we appreciate every person who submits to work on these shows. We seek to build a stronger community of volunteers and to develop a collaborative culture. Our goal is for productions to move as stress-free as possible, so that you and your team of artisans and performers can focus on what you do best.
